Janell Cannon’s books were very important to me as a child.  They helped foster a love for all animals, not just the small cute ones.  Her illustrations also continue to inspire me to this day.

Stellaluna was one of my favorite books growing up!  I had the book and the little stuffed animal of Stellaluna, which I made a snow jacket for so I could bring her outside in the winter without her getting ‘cold’ (i.e. messed up from being played with so much).  I still have her!  Here she is with all the other bat stuffed animals I’ve collected over the years.

Stellaluna was the only book about bats that wasn’t just straight up facts, and helped foster a love for bats in me as a child. To this day, bats are one of my favorite animals.  I donate every year to conservation efforts for bats, and I linger at the bat exhibit at the Denver zoo to watch these adorable little things flitter about. Thanks Jannell Cannon for making this wonderful book!
