Episode 72: THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM!

Directed by Otto Preminger and starring Frank Sinatra

Film noir based on the novel of the same name by  Nelson Algren, this film tells the story of a World War II veteran who became hooked on morphine (the film version never mentions the drug by name but it is implied that it is heroin) in a field hospital and carried his addiction back to his rough neighborhood in Chicago. Released from jail clean, he has high hopes of starting a new career as a jazz drummer. But debt and depression send in back to his old life as a card dealer in illicit gambling and his crippling addiction.

Once again this film is PUBLIC DOMAIN and not copyright protected in the US at least. You can make and sell your own DVD of it, download it, show it for free or for profit. Or remix it or use it for stock footage

Episode 71: DRIVE IN MASSACRE!

An early proto-slasher about two cops trying to catch a serial kill on the loose who stalks his victims at a drive in theater in a small rural Californian town. He stalks about among the cars, the snack bar and the projection booth slaying his victims with a sword and other bladed weapons.

Episode 70: The Brain That Wouldn’t Die!

A variation on the Frankenstein theme with a surgeon experimenting with limb and organ transplantation without rejection. He gets the chance to really put his technique to the test when his fiance is decapitated in a car crash. Keeping her head alive artificially, he begins the search to find her a new body, Even if he has to harvest one! Seeing the extreme measures that he is going through to keep her alive and restore her, the resentful Jan forges a alliance with a hideous mutant John keeps locked in the closet. Another result of his experiments.

Famous from late night television showing, drive-ins and of course Mystery Science Theater 3000, this film became a cult classic and was the inspiration for Frank Henelotter’s “Frankenhooker”.  It was notable, even though it was black and white, for being quite bloody for an early 60′s film

Episode 69: Creature! (aka The Titan Find!)

On the surface it seems like a simple rip-off of “Alien” and “The Thing”, but this film stands on its own as a pretty good low budget creature feature.

In the future, two competing corporations, one American and one German, are exploring the solar system to find mineral resources. On Saturn’s moon of Titan, they find the ancient remnants of an alien laboratory. The beings who created it thousands of years ago did so to make it a menagerie of alien lifeforms from all over the galaxy. And one of the lifeforms is now alive, awake and very hungry! The beast begins to kill the crew and control their corpses by attaching parasites to them. Now, fear and paranoid run high.

This film was directed by William Malone, the director of the “House on Haunted Hill” re-make, and stars eccentric German actor Klaus Kinski. It also features Wendy Schaal, voice of Francine on “American Dad”.

Once again this film is PUBLIC DOMAIN and not copyright protected in the US at least. You can make and sell your own DVD of it, download it, show it for free or for profit. Or remix it or use it for stock footage

Episode 68: Tales of Frankenstein!

After the unexpected international success of “The Curse of Frankenstein”, Hammer Films and Columbia Pictures collaborated on this short film, a pilot for a television series that never materialized.

“Tales of Frankenstein” would feature stories about Baron Frankenstein as he travels and continues his work in creating life from the dead. Each episode was to feature a new monster and new experiments.

Even thought the proposed series never came to be, many of the story concepts from the scripts commissioned for the film were adapted in feature films for Hammer Films. This includes “Frankenstein Created Woman” and “The Evil of Frankenstein”.

Episode 66: The Dover Boys (at Pimento University)!

Directed by Chuck Jones

I don’t usually do cartoons here on TALES, but due to the sudden upseurge in popularity of this cartoon here on Tumblr, I thought it would be good to do an episode for it.

Because, indeed, this cartoon is PUBLIC DOMAIN! No copyright or anything so you can do whatever you want with it.

It is one of only a few Warner Bros. cartoons to enter the public doamin accidentally. I say accidentally because there is a list of 11 cartoons that was allowed to lapse because they were so racist.

Episode 65: The Eerie Midnight Horror Show!

aka

Enter the Devil

The Sexorcist

The Possessed

Despite the “Rocky Horror” style and VHS box which was a staple of many “mom ‘n pop” video rental stores, this film is actually an Italian produced “Exorcist” imitator. One of many that flooded cinemas after the box office success of “The Exorcist”.

The film follows a sexually repressed art student named Danila who is helping her professor restore a 400 year old wooden statue of a crucified man. Danila’s aversion to sex stems from her over bearing and sexually depraved parents. Danila actually spys on her mother while she swings with much younger man and delights at being whipped with long stem roses.

The statue Danila is restoring comes to life and seduces her, because the wooden figure, now flesh, is none other than Satan himself!

Under his influence, she becomes more assertive, more sexual and much, much more deadly! Murder, sex, sadomasochism, and exorcisms ensue!

HAIL SATAN! HAIL HELL FIRE!

Episode 64: Silent Night, Bloody Night!

aka DEATHOUSE

Just in time for Christmas, a young woman, played by Mary Woronov, relates the story of a young man who comes to a town run by a bunch of old weirdos to claim his inheritance, the Butler Mansion. The Mansion was home to a even bigger weirdo named Wilfred Butler who turned it into an insane asylum and imprisoned his daughter in it until the inmates revolted and murdered the doctors and staff on Christmas eve.

The mayor and the town council want to make the young man an offer on the mansion so they can buy it and tear it down. But, they begin to receive menacing phone calls from someone who calls himself “Marianne”. The treats soon become real as someone begins to brutally murder all parties involved with an ax.

This is a perfect treat for any time of the year, but nothing says Christmas classic like ax murders and incest! Merry Fucking Christmas!
