Vintage Thanksgiving Horror Fillms
“Blood Freak” Ok, the first one on this list is a bit of a cheat. It’s the 1972 Anti-Drug, Pro-Christian, Gore film about a Vietnam vet biker who gets hopped up on laced pot, tries some experimentally enhanced turkey on a farm and turns into a mutant turkey man with an addiction to the blood of drug addicts.
“Home Sweet Home” 1981 brought us a slasher set on Thanksgiving where a maniac hopped up on PCP (played by Jake “Body By Jake” Steinfeld) who finds a cabin full of people who can barely tolerate each other getting ready to celebrate the holiday and kills them off one by one.
“Blood Rage” 1983′s entry in this very small sub-sub-genre of Holiday Horror tell the tale of twin boys, one of whom is a psychotic killer who frames the good brother for his crimes and gets away with it for years. The Good brother escapes from the asylum he had been trapped in for ten years and returns home on Thanksgiving to try and stop his evil twin from killing everyone. Needless to say, he takes the blame for the killings and everyone is terrified of him. This film was re-edited to change the ending and cut out some of the gore and re-released as “Nightmare at Shadow Woods” in 1987.
