Important reminder on flags in light of the Charleston massacre:

There is a superficial resemblance between the Confederate flag (top photo, crossed out), which represents the U.S. southern Slavocracy, the Klan and racist oppression in the United States today, and the national flag of Novorossiya (second photo).

The two are not related. The Novorossiyan flag is “a red flag with a blue Saint Andrew’s cross. The flag of the Russian Navy. Of the Navy, which played a prominent military role in the emergence and establishment of the historical Novorossiya,” according to journalist Aleksandr Chalenko, who explained its symbolism in an item published by Izvestia on March 20, 2014.

The third picture is the battle flag of the antifascist Novorossiyan militias, which is increasingly used and is a bit easier for westerners to differentiate.

In general, here in the U.S., we avoid using the Novorossiyan flag because most workers are not familiar with it and would immediately assume it was the flag of Dylann Roof, the Klan and their ilk. At our demonstrations in solidarity with Donbass, we fly the Donetsk and Lugansk flags, the red Victory Banner with hammer and sickle, and so on.

Because I post a lot about Novorossiya, you will sometimes see the national flag here.
