Although nearly every American under 30 uses the Internet in some capacity (a whopping 98 percent of millennials are online), younger people are more likely to believe that there’s useful information that’s only available offline. While 62 percent of citizens under 30 ascribe to this belief, only 53 percent of those 30 and older agree.
This and other information revealed by a recent PewResearch project could begin to explain why millennials are actually more likely to have picked up a book in the past year than their older peers. According to the study:
Some 43 percent report reading a book — in any format — on a daily basis, a rate similar to older adults. Overall, 88 percent of Americans under 30 read a book in the past year, compared with 79 percent of those age 30 and older.
Why are people always selling kids short? Its like the previous generation forgot they raised the current one.
My collection of film adaptation novels. Mostly these were put out as a way to capitalize on the film and make some extra money off of it. But they have since become collector’s items, particularly for horror fans. Some of them were so sought after they actually got reissues like the “Dawn of the Dead” book or were made long after the initial release of the film like the “Toxic Avenger” book.
Sometimes the book has material that could not be in the film because of time or budget restraints or it is based on an earlier draft of the script.
“Escape From New York” is a good example because it has a lot more in the way of “world building”. It contains the deleted bank robbery scene as well as Snake Plissken’s war experiences that disillusioned him. As well as how he lost his eye in a failed mission in Leningrad.
The book goes on to say that the 400% rise in crime was due to the economy collapsing because the United States gets bogged down in a three-way war with the Soviet Union and China. All other countries, unless occupied by these powers, have declared their neutrality and try to stay the hell out of the way. Nuclear weapons have been banned by all sides to protect neutral nation and to avoid even worse devastation. So the conflict is entirely conventional and chemical in nature.
Of course it can be a double-edged sword because the “Jason X” novel is over 400 pages long. It is over padded for a book based on a film that is 1 hour and 33 minutes long (typically one page of script translates into one minute of screen time).
Many of these books turn up in used book stores and thrift shops. They can command a good price from collectors.
With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?
It’s World Book Day! Perfect opportunity to start reading (or re-reading) any of Marc Cerasini’s Godzilla novels for Random House.
I wish I had those books when I was little!
Book
So anyway, I was walking home reading my favorite books. There was a football game at the stadium so obviously I headed in the opposite direction to escape the crowds of loud obnoxious football fans.
But, it never fails when I walk the streets of Boone, someone has to scream something at me as the drive by. This time it was a football fan who yelled.
“Yeah! Read the shit out of that book, mother fucker!”
I suppose I could take that as encouragement. But, calling me a “mother fucker” probably was not necessary.
I should have thrown a rock.
Godzilla books. I found this at a local shop. That last one of Godzilla sleeping at that bottom of the ocean makes him look like a puppy. I liked these. They were intended for children but they make for good light reading.
I saw an advertisement in the back for other books in the series and the “Godzilla Compendium”. I remember seeing that book in a bookstore when i was a kid. I begged my dad for it. He told me to shut up or he would kick my ass. He wasn’t much for “luxuries” like books. Oh well.
Found this on DA by an artist called CSImadmax. Her stuff is fucking hilarious!
Being MLP, Atreyu and Artax are species swapped.
Treasure
I was on my way out of my apartment today, I notice that some one had set out a bed frame next to the dumpster. I knew better to leave it there because someone else would get it.
As I approached the dumpster, I noticed a lot of stuff had been thrown in. Not trash, but treasure! The first thing I pulled out was a PS3! It had no power cable or controllers, but it looks like it is good condition and still functional. Normally, I would see something like that thrown out it must be because it was broken. But the other stuff I found belied that because there was more to be found.
I surmised that one of my neighbors moved out but must of also broken up with her boyfriend and threw out his stuff!
I found:
a PS3
a set of poker chips and cards
a mountain of DVDs
a few CDs
a basket
a stack of books
a surge protector
a calculator still in its packaging
an Ipod
and a flick knife!
Living in a college town, you have lots of people who would rather throw away or destroy their belongs they don’t feel like taking back home with them than see them in the hands of poor people. But, as I said before, I believe the motivation was spite than anything material.
I called Hunter and told her about it and that the PS3 was her’s if she wanted it. She tried to control her enthusiasm because she was at work, but she was ecstatic. The cost of the power cord, controllers and any needed repairs would definitely be cheaper than buying a new one. Now she can finally play “Journey”!
In a weird place.
You find yourself in a weird place when you find that your mom has a copy of one the “50 Shades of Grey” books in with her other books. The second one… So that means that she has probably read the first.
This blog is mostly so I can vent my feelings and share my interests. Other than that, I am nothing special.
If you don't like Left Wing political thought and philosophy, all things related to horror, the supernatural, the grotesque, guns or the strange, then get the fuck out. I just warned you.
