As a bisexual, I concur.
Where Are All the Bisexual Men, and Why Are They Hiding?
Tuesday was something called Bisexual Visibility Day. Which got me thinking: Where exactly are all the bi guys? I know a fair few fellas who’ve confided in me about their same-sex experiences, but only a handful of guys who straight-up identify as bi.
That might be because, for years, bisexuality has been maligned as homosexuality’s no-good cousin—a sort of halfway house between straight respectability and full-blown gay-dom. Bisexuals spread diseases. Bisexuals can’t accept that they’re really gay. Bisexuals are greedy, confused, selfish. This is the sort of shit people say about bisexuals. No wonder bi dudes like to keep it on the lowdown.
Having made a lot of friends that are gay or lesbian or bi has changed a lot of the ways I think about the world. I start to notice things that I never really though about before. Mostly how shitty some people can be.
As you might expect, you run into a great number of anti-social people if you hang around a comic book shop. Some of the guys who come there were in or still are in some branch of the military. One in particular, for almost no reason, starts going on about gays being allowed in the military. Starts saying shit about how the army is going to go down hill and how they will have to salute each other like they do in the British army. He laughed about it really loud and everybody else just gave a nervous chuckle and looked at each other. Then when he was gone, we started asking “what the fuck was that all about?” It was best that no one disagreed with him because he it the kind of guy who looks for reasons to pop his shirt off and fight. But, usually when the other person is smaller than him.
But seriously, what the fuck? What? He’s brave enough and tough enough to join up, go through basic and the get marched off to fight and kill and die on some God forsaken rock half a world a way, but he is still not good enough because he’s gay? Mother fucker, have you even heard of Alexander the Great?!
I have a friend who is bi and was in the army. I told him that he was brave enough to become a soldier in the first place, let alone with his orientation.
If I was being shot at, I don’t care if the man next to me checks out my ass as long as he makes sure it doesn’t get shot off.
