In ancient Babylonia, the New Year festivities began in Adar/March 21st of every year. In the southern and central parts of modern-day Iraq (Historical Babylonia), local population still celebrates this day as the beginning of the New Year, calling it “dukhool al-sana.” Households prepare trays filled with sweets, green branches, and candles to mark the celebration.
