After last nights fest of zombies and cannibals, I decided to go with demonic possession. I’ve been wanting to see this movie forever. Since I was a wee one. I’d see it on the 9.99 VHS rack at Omni (if anyone remembers those) and it looked so cool. And actually, it’s pretty damn entertaining.

Now Watching

“The Asphyx” trailer from 1973.

A Victorian scientist thinks he has recorded in photographs the human soul leaving the body at the moment of death. But, closer examination reveals that the phenomenon in the photographs is moving toward the dying rather than away. What he has captured on film is actually an Asphyx, a spirit from Greek Mythology that acts as a personal grim reaper, coming to claim the soul at death to take it to the afterlife. He is determined to capture his own Asphyx in order to become immortal!

Simon Boswell - “Demonica”

From the soundtrack of “Demons 2”.

“Rawhead Rex”

Based on a short story by Clive Barker.

A monstrous pagan god is loosed when a neolithic stone that held him prisoner is moved. The creature goes on a killing spree to reclaim that which was his.

Clive Barker has expressed a desire to make another attempt to adapt this story, as he was not happy with the final film. Mostly the look of the monster.

I saw this on television when I was about 8 or so. It scared the living hell out of me.

GOOD FUCKING GOD THAT IS TERRIFYING

Fuck

“And so the little lamb and his mama live happily ever after,” the girl finished reading her story aloud to the creature beside her. Hopeful orbs of blue glistened as she cocked her head up at him. “Didya like that, Mister Boogey?”

No response from underneath the black coat. She frowned, teetering off her seat ever so slowly before her tiny feet reached the ground.

“Mister Boogey?” she asked again, gripping the corners of the dark trench coat.  When nothing responded, she slowly peeled it open, revealing the coat rack on which he had been perched. Where had he gone?

The little girl shrunk back, upset that her friend had left without a word. She curled up in her chair, clutching the book tightly in case he came back to hear the rest of the tale. Suddenly, a soft wind blew through the empty room, but before she could turn to see what had caused it, she was swept up in darkness.

“Gotcha,” the creature chuckled, cradling her close to him.

The child squeal with laughter most contagious, pleased of his return.

“I thought you left!” She gave a pout, looking up at his shadowy face.

“Why, my dear, I’d never leave you. I am your guardian after all, am I not?” The monster gave her a toothy smile. “And I will always be your Boogeyman.”

“We’re going to get you!

We’re going to get you!

Not another peep!

Time to go to sleep!”

One of my all time favorites. I think this was the movie where I stopped being scared of horror films and started loving the hell out them!
And the soundtrack album was one of the best albums I have ever owned.
