The rare Hungarian Tokagypt 58,

By the late 1940’s and 1950’s most Communist bloc countries were producing their own model of the the Tokarev.  In Hungary they produced the M48 which took the Tokarev design and adapted it for 9mm Para (whereas the original Tokarev was in 7.62x25).

In 1957 the Hungarian government received a contract to manufacture a special variant of the M48 for Egyptian police forces.  The new design featured a safety catch located at the top left hand side of the reciever, a wraparound plastic grip, and a finger support on the magazine. A recoil operated single action semi-automatic pistol, it used a detachable magazine which held 7 rounds.

Originally called the TT-9P they were eventually marked the “Tokagypt 58”, a portmanteau of “Tokarev” and “Egypt”.  15,000 were produced and exported to Egypt before the Egyptian government terminated the contract.
