Today in history: October 1, 1949 - Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong declares the victory of the revolution and the creation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The world-historic announcement signaled the end of the civil war between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Nationalist Party, or Kuomintang (KMT), which was preceeded by victory over the Japanese.
