On this day, 18 May 2021, millions of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, Gaza and Israel went on strike in protest at escalating Israeli state violence against civilians in Gaza. Israeli authorities were forcibly removing Palestinian families from their homes in East Jerusalem in order to house Jewish settlers. When Palestinians protested against this ethnic displacement, Israeli troops responded with violence, and eventually airstrikes on Gaza destroying homes and offices, and killing large numbers of civilians and children.
