The City Center Motel of Long Beach, California is closed. It operated as a motel from the late 1960s until the 1990s. In recent years, its rooms served as long-term housing. In September 2021, there were only 9 long-term tenants remaining.

That month, they were all served eviction notices. The owners ceased communication with the tenants and put a fence around the property a few months later. The Western Center on Poverty & Law reported on the conditions stating there was, “water damage in the rooms – ceilings discolored at the edges and black mold. One room boasts a large hole in the ceiling.”

The property is surrounded by high-end, high-rise apartments. Since closing, renovations have started but it’s currently unclear what will become of this motel. Anyone know?
