  • Stuart Gordon got the idea for the film from believing that there were too many Dracula inspired movies and not enough Frankenstein ones. 
  • Gordon wanted to initially film the movie in black and white to give it the atmosphere of an old monster movie. 
  • The film went through twenty-four gallons of fake blood. 
  • Before production, various members of the cast and crew visited an insane asylum for research. 
  • In the actors commentary for the film, Barbara Crampton recalled Bruce Abbott gifting her the jacket that he wore in the film, and that she still has it. 
  • The entire film was shot in eighteen days. 
  • The reagent in the film was glow stick juice, which Jeffrey Combs advises people not to drink because apparently that stuff is toxic. 
  • Jeffrey Combs recalls in the actors commentary having to give David Game cigarettes while he was stuck under tables during the headless Dr. Hill scenes.
  • The opening scene of the movie was filmed last. 
  • One of the actors on the film scared a gas station attendant because they were covered in the fake blood from set. 
  • David Gale's wife was so enraged by the "head" scene that while watching the movie, she left the theatre.
  • For certain scenes with dead Rufus, a real dead cat was used.
  • Re-Animator was one of many films that Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton co-starred on, others including From Beyond, Castle Freak, and The Evil Clergyman.
