Oliver Stone could never be accused of being too subtle, and in NBK his over-the-top, experimental hyperstyle reached peak ferociousness and is exactly what was required - the psychedelia was such a part of the film and message (and process apparently) that the difference between style and substance was rendered profoundly irrelevant.
