A lot of assholes respond to this by saying that it's bad to give people anything for free.

But it never even mentions that. Nothing about this post implies that it would be free. People still have to pay for their plate. They just can't get seconds until everyone has one.

cuba actually has something similar to this in the form of limiting the number of houses an individual can own to 2, and, relatedly, a home ownership rate of 90% (the usa has a home ownership rate of 65%)

and what's funny is i can already anticipate the cornballs who will moan about how "it doesn't matter if cuba has a higher home ownership rate, limiting the number of houses a person can own is tyranny!"- but inherently someone owning houses they don't live in generally depends on state violence to enforce that property claim, to arrest trespassers/squatters, or, relevant to one of the primary reasons people own houses they don't live in, to evict tenants.

so what's the real tyranny here? not being able to have a second vacation home? or cops dragging weeping families from their homes because they couldn't make rent?
