On this day, 23 January 1982 all Formula One Grand Prix drivers apart from two went on strike in South Africa, barricading themselves in a room, in protest at new “superlicence” conditions. The new licences would tie drivers to three year contracts, and worst of all would forbid any criticism of their governing body the FIA, with a penalty of a lifetime ban if they did so. They were fined, but the new licences were withdrawn. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.1819457841572691/2193194437532361/?type=3
