“The bill, which would ensure that same-sex and interracial marriages are enshrined in federal law, was approved 61-36 on Tuesday, including support from 12 Republicans”

I want emphasize to y'all how surreal this is to any LGBTQ person over the age of 25 that 12 Republican Senators would support a Marriage Equality bill, let alone every Democrat. I remember when it was brave for any politician, including Democrats, to be in favor of LGBTQ rights. It wasn’t that long ago that it was such a radical position to take that it was reserved for politicians on the left-edge of the mainstream like Bernie Sanders.

It is kind of amazing that this can be written off as a small win to someone like me who came out just about 20 years ago when it was still illegal to be gay in 14 states (including my own state of Texas).

I’m only 32 and I’ve gone from seeing my existence as illegal to seeing people poo-pooing the codification of marriage equality as small potatoes. I just want to appreciate the moment.
