Marvel Comics artist/writer Walt Simonson studied geology with eventual intent to become a paleontologist and expert in dinosaurs. 

In Fantastic Four #345 (1991), a time travel story where the First Family of Comics went back in time, Simonson depicted the Deinonychus with feathers. 

At the time, 1991, this was a very controversial idea that did not have mainstream acceptance. Only Gregory S. Paul, who inspired this, depicted them as feathered.
