The John Birch Society was cofounded by the head of Koch Industries, Fred C. Koch. His children, the infamous Koch Brothers, were automatically the wealthiest people in Kansas when they inherited his wealth.

Charles G. Koch ran a John Birch Society bookstore in Wichita for seven years. He left the JBS once it became widely dismissed as a laughing stock, but his political point of view never changed.
