What the fuck… netflix only pay in full once a show reaches season 3? And by rebooting daredevil and restarting it as season 1, Disney+ can get away with not paying the crew in full
uh that literally answers why they have a three season model that literally writers never knew about because netflix alway pulls the rug from under them, their fucking greed has always been their business model, there’s no saving that company
It’s not just netflix. Have you noticed how much all western cartoons are either 8-10 seasons long or 2-2.5? That’s because finishing a third season means the network has to pay the creators a lot more, so they look real hard for any excuse to cancel it in time if they’re not sure it’ll be a big long-running hit. That’s why, for example, seasons 1-2 and 4-9 of MLP were all 26 episodes long, but season 3 is only 13; until they were convinced to do 4+ seasons they wanted to make sure there was never a whole third one. I’m pretty sure that’s also why it’s so common recently to replace the last season of the story with a movie or miniseries or other “special”, because then it can be legally distinct from the main run.
