On 24 July 1969 not long after the Stonewall rebellion, the New York Gay Liberation Front held their first public meeting. The GLF was a completely new type of LGBT+ organisation: rather than advocate for gay civil rights and assimilation into mainstream capitalist society, the GLF advocated complete sexual liberation and the overthrowing of that society.
