John H. Douglas of the evangelical lobby group Morality in Media was responsible for the hysteria surrounding George Carlin’s Seven Dirty Words routine.

It is often said that Douglas was alarmed because his “young son” was exposed to Carlin’s material, but what is seldom mentioned is that his “young son” was about to turn sixteen-years-old, the same age as most people hearing George Carlin for the first time.

Douglas later campaigned against cable television, on-demand pornography, and even pressured convenience stores to remove Playboy and Penthouse from their magazine racks.
