i need to get this off my chest so i’ll say it as quickly as i can.

as a ukrainian and russian jew in america, i feel fucking sick. like so many with family on both sides of the border, my “loyalty” to both is being questioned by others. more importantly, theres no way to know if i’ll see either side again. my thoughts have been scattered the last few days, in between reading ukrainian articles and spreading awareness to my family of russian disinfo and lies. but i feel like i want to say something to other americans watching this invasion.

if you are a leftist of any kind, you should be anti war. the only people who ever suffer the costs of combat are children and the poor. it makes me spit when i see americans rejoicing russian soldiers deaths- those young men don’t want to be there either, and you post their dead bodies like this is some kind of marvel movie? if you haven’t been following what’s been going on in russia and ukraine for literally decades, you probably have very little practical understanding of what’s going on there. russians are protesting putin, which is illegal under their law. they are risking everything to let us know that this is not their war and not their choice.

and those of you who spread nothing about ukraine but the fascists who live there or the nazis of the azov battalion, shame on you. jews, people of color, Muslims, all live in ukraine and are all under attack. children are under attack. refugees from afghanistan and students from nigeria, all. under. attack. the kremlin is not killing the nazis, they are killing everyone. today, putin’s missiles hit babyn yar (holocaust memorial) and people died there. he talks of “solving the ukrainian problem”. if you can’t hear his dogwhistles, you must have your ears plugged. if you can’t see his war crimes, you must be covering your eyes.

putin is not a communist, a socialist or a leftist. he’s a war mongering, foolish dictator who sends russians to die, fighting their brother country for no reason other than pride and legacy’s sake. he is controlled by money, blood and power, a perfect example of fascism. stop falling for the lies on RTV, stop falling for the bots on twitter and get your sources from independent journalists and people on the ground. otherwise you’re just a useful idiot, spreading false information on things you barely understand.
