Distilled water is out everywhere again, just like at the beginning of pandemic, so:

Please note that distilled water is not for drinking. Do not buy distilled water to drink. Distilled water is needed for medical equipment such as breathing machines, and these shortages are disproportionately affecting disabled people.

For those of you facing the shortage like I am, check drug stores like CVS and retails like Target. There are ways to make distilled water at home, but it takes time, a working stove, and ice cubes.

Distilled water is also not great to drink anyway!

It tastes bad, can actually remove ions you need from your body (it will do the opposite of things like rehydration salts), and is more likely to contain leached plastics from its container.

The properties that make it good for breathing machines - basically that if you evaporate it it doesn’t leave a residue behind that clogs things up - make it bad for drinking. It’s anti-mineral water.
