Would y'all be okay with an effects shot? It’s pretty gory, but I’m impressed by what this Italian studio accomplishes on a low budget, and it’s a pretty darn decent use of combining digital and practical effects. Don’t worry–I’ll tag it appropriately.

The studio is called Necrostorm, and this scene is from Taeter City (2012). I’m hoping they have behind-the-scenes featurettes on their releases, because I’d love to see a breakdown of how this was composited.

Necrostorm specializes in over-the-top splatter films, and this is one of their best. They also digitally manipulated an actor’s face to have unnaturally-spaced eyes, and it’s remarkable how well it works (there’s at least one noticeable flub, but it’s forgiveable).

I’d be very excited to see what Giulio de Santi (the director, as well as the actor pictured above) and Necrostorm could come up with if given a decent budget. Taeter City could be a masterwork if the plot were fleshed out a little more (it’s a very interesting plot, by the way), and the scope was larger. Show us the people, you know? Really give us a feel for the average citizen’s life under a cannibalistic dictatorship.

De Santi had a previous film starring his brother that I think I definitely need to see. It’s called Adam Chaplin, and these gifs have me intrigued (thanks to @brody75 for the first two):
