It's hard to describe how transformative going to an HBCU was. As time goes on, the things I was learning (and unlearning!) become more and more important. There's something about learning with and learning from Black people that changed me in subtle, profound ways.
Many of these institutions are in a precarious position right now due to a lack of public and private support. Now there's bomb threats, and that's troubling for the future of HBCUs. Most parents aren't keen on sending their kids to a place where they might get blown up.
BTW, I found out about this from a Tweet a mutual of mine liked. And I went to one of the schools that received a bomb threat over the past few days.
