Photo by @chienleephotography The penetrating stare of a Bornean Frogmouth (Batrachostomus mixtus). With its enormous, flattened bill, it’s not difficult to see how this family of birds earned its common name. With its mouth open, the broad gape provides an efficient means of snapping up insects on the wing, which the frogmouth hunts exclusively at night. By day, these birds rest motionless on a branch, their cryptic plumage leading many to mistake them for a clump of dead leaves. Special thanks to Yeo Siew Teck for the excellent find. #Wild #Natures #Bird #Wildlife #Animals #Sarawak #Wildeyesa #Ornithology #NorthernBorneo #BirdPhotography
