November 5, 1855: Birthday of Comrade Eugene Debs, militant labor leader, co-founder of the International Workers of the World (IWW) and frequent presidential candidate of the Socialist Party.
Debs last ran for president in 1920, while jailed as a political prisoner under the 1917 Espionage Act (later used to convict Pfc. Chelsea Manning).
