The Roman Horus statue is pretty cursed without the paint reconstruction tbf

The reconstruction just enhances the weird:

Also this Roman bronze of Horus:

Finally, while looking for these images I found this Australian newspaper article that uses these images and has this headline:

Yeah, that sums up Roman Egypt

#tbh this just has the same energy as like. a hindu or chinese temple #like yeah it’s just ghastly coloured uncomfortable looking statues #you take them as a representation of whatever the myth is #and it’s just dependent on how fancy the place is #the room is hot and smells like incense and dust and it’s where the community gathers for worship #it’s just life #westerners are brainwashed by the victorians #and their damn classicism

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying here? I'm saying the statue of Horus, as the Romans depicted him is pretty cursed looking. The paint, while accurate, sorta adds to this 'cursed' looking Horus. Just this one. I'm certainly not saying that coloured statues are ugly. Again, just this one. Horus doesn't usually look like this, many of his images are painted, and I don't mock them.

I don't disagree with the statement that we're brainwashed to only think white statues are beautiful, but this isn't what's happening here. I'm simply making a shitpost about this really ugly Roman Egypt statue of Horus.

rudjedet

because it's REALLY ugly, and in that only matched by the Hellenistic statue of Anubis, you know the one

thanks Ptolemies, we hate it

Noooo don't remind me of uncanny valley Anubis!!
