Sweet Tooth
A horror comic I’ve been working on for the last few weeks, originally posted on My Patreon!
The pages are pretty big, so you may have to right-click and open them in a new tab to view them properly. Alternatively, here’s a link to an Imgur Album.
This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while; something a bit different from my usual cel-shaded aesthetic. I haven’t done real digital paintings like these in a long time and doing it again has got me re-learning a lot of old tricks as well as learning a few new ones. The overall “look” of this comic is heavily inspired by the classic illustrations of Stephen Gammell, who you may know better as the illustrator for the “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” trilogy. The actual subject matter, however, is largely inspired by my own nightmares throughout the years.
This was a fun comic to both write and draw (I re-wrote the final lines about three times actually). I haven’t done anything horror-themed in a long time, much less on this scale, and I certainly haven’t done any kind of digital painting like this for a long, long time. I’m more used to doing more cel-shaded cartoony stuff, but it’s good to know I can make stuff like this as well. Overall, I’m proud of this.
The only thing that still bothers me is that I’ve been drawing and painting this horrible nightmare predator for so long yet I still don’t have a name for them. Any suggestions?
