Some of this is Roman, whether it’s from that period or not. Ancient movement of peoples triumphs again!

Wait wait wait. Does this guy with the curly moustache have stitched lips?

This article is breathlessly leaping to conclusions that it refers to Odin. (But Loki = Loptr, lofty, so that’s not necessarily the case.)

Anyone speak Danish?

Okay, so this looks like a mixture of Elder and Younger (Danish / long-branch) Futhark. I transliterate it to:

s salR aegi

Which per this old norse English dictionary

translates to

House (or hall) God (or protector, the root word of ON aegis = shield)

…which, IF that’s a part-human-part-bird holding a nut, and those are stitched lips, and that other figure is a snake, and that’s an oath ring around the central figure’s neck, MIGHT be pretty compelling evidence of Loki having a hearth cult that included people of significant wealth.

I am trying not to get too excited until the experts publish their findings on this artefact but this could be a really big deal.

If it is Loki, I will (amongst being happy about this find) once again give him shit for his endlessly absurd mustache.
