On Aug. 21, 1831, enslaved African laborers in Virginia led by Nat Turner rose up in revolt .

While the revolt was ruthlessly crushed within days, Turner escaped and survived for six weeks before he was captured and beheaded by a white militia. #OTD #NatTurner #BlackHistory
