Tuskegee Experiment: The Infamous Syphilis Study
For forty years, the United States federal government conducted experiments on its own citizens, in which medical doctors allowed those citizens to slowly sicken, deteriorate, and die, while lying to the men about the nature of the experiments, and allowing them to spread the disease to their spouses and offspring. The study lasted for forty years and may have continued had it not been exposed by journalists in 1972.
