Christ, you guys werent kidding when you said that people don’t understand (nor care) what “neoliberalism” means.
What is this. This isn’t neoliberalism. It’s rainbow capitalism but it’s not “the definition of neoliberalism”. You guys just grab words and misuse them as much as you like so they lose their actual meaning and become completely useless, preventing actual useful conversations about the topics from taking place. You’re so annoying.
Why is Tumblr user Vicholas, local user from Chile, annoyed that it’s so common here to completely mangle the meaning of neoliberalism, distracting from actual conversations about it. I wonder. I wonder why. I wonder if there are actual historical reasons for why she feels it matters.
I made a somwhat similar post recently lol.
In case anyone reading doesn’t get why two Chilean bloggers just happen to not be reacting positively to people using “neoliberal(ism)” to mean anything from “cringe liberal” to “capitalism 2.0 bad”, it’s because neoliberalism is a very specific economic model that the US first tested in Chile by deposing of our democtracially elected government (that they’d spent 3 years sabotaging before that point), installing a fascist fascist military dictatorship that tortured, executed and disappeared thousands for over 17 years instead, and this economic model we know as neoliberalism left our country with a wild level of economic inequality after that is still very much fucking us over to this day, more than 30 years after the dictatorship ended.
