April 3rd is the anniversary of the last speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. where he again galvanized the struggle for justice by saying it must include the struggle for a living wage and respect for workers.

Yet, Kroger Corporation announced store closures as retaliation for being forced by the city to add an extra $5 for hero/hazard pay to their workers.

Kroger Corporation made a fortune in 2020, their sales rose to $132 billion and profits rose 56% - the equivalent of two Fortune 500 companies - during the pandemic! And, the CEO makes 21 million.

Thousands of front line workers have been infected and hundreds have died, and - like the existence of food deserts - Black and Brown communities have been disproportionately effected. Still, their co-workers kept working, making sure that we could feed our families. They are heroes and deserve to be paid hazard pay, not lose their jobs and have a vital resource for the community taken away.

- Creating Food Deserts is a Crime!
- We Need Union Jobs & Hazard Pay!
