TL;DR: Amazon is of course fully aware that their workers (this article mainly focuses on delivery drivers) are forced to pee in bottles and shit in bags while working, but treats it as an infraction on the part of the worker (!!) that the worker then needs to be disciplined for, as opposed to a reflection on their repulsive practices.
Workers interviewed say that as this issue becomes more prevalent, Amazon has begun to push for higher and higher targets of items-per-hour, further worsening it.
This is nearly standard in the trucking industry. This conversation needs to be bigger! Shippers and recievers often don’t let us use their bathrooms, as we are not their employees. There is a shortage of easy to access restrooms on the highways. God forbid you have to pee in the state of Massachusetts. If a cop catches you peeing outside its an indecent exposure charge, and the loss of your job. We have no other options.
Amazon did not invent the mistreatment of truckers. We aren’t protected by the same federal labor laws as every one else.
