Since 2017, our collective has run the International Violent Hate Crimes Research Project, where we document & report on hate-motivated violence around the world. This links to a pdf of our 2020 report, where we found that violent hate crimes targeting Asians increased eightfold in 2020.

So far in 2021, Asians have been targeted for more hate-motivated violence than any other ethnic or racial category worldwide. You can see our 2021 chronology here and view our 2021 map here.

There are many other organizations who monitor hate crimes, but either cover only specific countries or categories of people targeted, or they don’t differentiate between hate crimes in general and actual violence motivated by hate. To our knowledge, we are the only group that covers hate-motivated violence across borders and categories. If you think that’s important work to do please support us by contributing here.
