On this day, 11 March 1963, secretary, stenographer, revolutionary and war resister Louise Olivereau died aged around 79 in San Francisco. The daughter of immigrants, she was an advocate of women’s rights and joined the radical Industrial Workers of the World union. She was jailed for 10 years for her opposition to World War I, but resumed her activism upon her release.
