at nearly four fucking feet tall, maned wolves are the tallest canid in the world by a HUGE margin! 

and there’s a good reason for that- maned wolves live in grassland areas and mostly hunt small animals, so the long stilt-legs give them a literal leg up and let them see over the tall grass.

(probably still HELLA ticks in there, though.)

this elevated height also grants them a distinguished and imposing air…

…but only from the sides.

also they’re omnivorous and their diet is more than fifty percent one specific fruit (Solanum lycocarpum), plus their urine smells like weed to the point that numerous zoos have had to deal with repeated false drug charges.
