Winchester Model 70 transistor rifle prototype
Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. c.1955 based on their successful Model 70 “Rifleman’s Rifle” introduced in 1936.
.308 Winchester 5-round fixed box magazine, Mauser/Springfield type bolt action, chrome finish, transistor radio in the butt stock.
This strange rifle prototype was introduced only a year after transistors became commercially available. As fancy as it was though, it did not spark any interest from the Model 70′s consumer base, which was largely made up of hunters who thought very little of the incredibly shiny and loud prototype.
