Steven Crowder lives in a time bubble where it’s always 2008 and nothing ever changes. He is mentally unable to realize that politics can exist beyond the very tight constraints of the American Republican/Democrat rivalry. He is incompatible with even the very concept of political theory because that would require him to understand that one can be a nationalist while also wanting limits on the abuses of power by multi-billionaires.

Idk if the linked video explains this, but in between the jump cut right before the fight in the OP, Crowder shoved the guy who’s beating the shit out of him. Just in case you thought the beating was not completely deserved.

the video is of a different event, but yeah Crowder antagonises people to get footage of them acting out, and although it’s a different event I like what the guy in the second video says about violence just being an inevitable part of life to a degree. and I think Crowder knows that a video of somebody hitting him or throwing something at him makes them look wholly like the bad guy, and not like he’s winding up everyday people and getting “surprised” that sometimes normal people react to that. it’d be like me going down to the pub and calling a guy a pussy over and over and then filming him punching me… like yeah that happens sometimes. that’s not to say violence is always okay but like… what did you expect?

There is a whole string of right-wing dickheads like this, with a slightly different flavor in every country, who produce media content by basically harassing people until they defend themselves and then re-framing that as aggression.

I’ve seen the likes of them - like ‘POW News’ - at work in the Netherlands a bunch of times and they’re so disgusting. Imagine getting a camera pushed in your face without your consent and being shouted at, shoved and called slurs again and again until you respond in some way that is useful to them.

And if they get useful footage of you that makes you look like the kind of left-wing person they hate, there’s a good chance their army of troll followers will try to track you down, doxx you, send you all sorts of hate, harass your friends and family… it’s disgusting. And the more marginalized you are, the worse they get.

In the Netherlands organizers have started spotting and identifying these sort of types and pushing them out of protests. There’s often an assigned person - someone with media training and the privilege of being able to deal with the fall out - who will stick in front of that camera while providing the most boring repetitive footage ever, for the whole duration of the protest.

Another strategy individual activists take is to follow them around with a loud siren so they can’t interview anybody, or just to damage or steal their cameras before they can shoot any footage. All of that is hero’s work to be honest because these types are dangerous to protestors and this shit is effective self defense.
