Last night I watched Michele Soavi’s 1989 Italian Horror Film The Church.
It was a bit of a slow start but by the mid-point I was really enjoying this tale of a cursed Church built upon the mass grave of suspected witches slain by a group of Teutonic Knights in the 12th Century. Soavi has always been an interesting director and is a protege of Dario Argento, who produced this film. While The Church isn’t my favorite of his film (that would be the theater slasher Stage Fright) this was a very interesting movie, especially for someone from a Catholic background like myself. It has a building sense of dread and some amazing phantasmagorical imagery,
