~ Ta-ker-heb’s death book.

Date: ca. 200 B.C.

• From the source: Excerpt of a Death Book, which belonged to the woman Ta-Ker-heb. The excerpt shows the funeral: The dead man is brought to the grave on a boat-shaped sled. From ca. 1500 B.C. the Death Book became part of the burial equipment. The Book of the Dead is not a book, but rather a scroll of papyrus closely described with magical forms designed to help the dead towards eternal life. The death book contains texts and pictures for use in the funeral, sentencing and life in the realm of death. The text of this Death Book is accompanied by pictures done in black line drawings. The papyrus roll is decorated on both sides, which is not common.
