Unless you’ve been living under a rock (perhaps one chained to the bottom of a lake), you’re likely aware that the Friday the 13th rights are currently entangled in a messy, years-long legal battle between original director/producer Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller. Not only does that mean Jason won’t be slashing his way back to the big screen any time soon, but the dispute also halted numerous other Friday the 13th-related media (including Friday the 13th: The Game).
I don’t know the legalities behind it, but somehow The Op Games (formerly USAopoly) managed to create and release a new board game based on the beloved franchise, Friday the 13th: Horror at Camp Crystal Lake. Fine print in the rule book reveals what is perhaps the legal loophole: the game is based on Quartz, originally released by Passport Game Studios in 2015, but redesigned to fit the Friday the 13th theme. Regardless, horror fans will be happy to have more Jason Voorhees in their lives.
