On this day, 31 August 1944, Maria Dimadi, Greek interpreter and anti-Nazi resistance activist was executed by members of the Greek collaborationist Security Battalions. She had been working as a spy in the German garrison headquarters, and passing information to the resistance before she was caught and killed.
