Bronze Coffin Composition

This bronze coffin used to hold the remains of a small animal. It is decorated with a falcon standing on a throne and wearing the double crown of Egypt. A lioness goddess (Sekhmet) and the god Shu, shown squatting, adorn the base of this coffin. A dedicatory inscription can be read on the right side of the base. Possibly to be read “Horus-of-Pe to give all life and health eternally … to Pa-irr-aw-ib (?)”.

Late Period, ca. 664-332 BC. Now in the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago. E10604
