this seems almost like a uniquely idiotic american trend. other capitalist democracies are usually smart enough to know that the workers have to be alive to generate profit but cold war propaganda has rotted america’s collective psyche so badly that the ruling class just kind of assumes the money will appear from thin air even if all the workers die or quit
