this is really true tho!!! my uncle was a cop in NY & FL and they taught him to shoot first if he had to. anytime a cop feels threatened (and they basically teach cops they’re always threatened) they can shoot. its rlly sick psychological torture shit to help create a police state tbh

I’ve been bitching about this for YEARS now. We’ve known about this for YEARS. But the problem seems to be that demanding reform seems to become a goddamn casualty of other people’s desire for violence.

This isn’t new and it’s one of the two things that really needs to change. This us versus them attitude. This idea that you need to be ultra-defensive and use the force of violence whenever they feel threatened. This takes people that might have been good policemen and completly utterly ruins them.

This sort of training absolutely has to be done away with. The other big reform I’d advocate for is to find a way to find and remove problematic police officers before they create major incidents or get people killed. It is extremly difficult to remove cops from duty permenently, even if they have a documented history of excessive force and violence. Most law-enforcement organizations are clearly incapable or unwilling to police themselves, so something has to change there.
