On this day, 26 November 1938, a football team of Basque boys who were refugees from the Spanish civil war played a friendly match in Pontypridd, Wales.
Wales welcomed many working class children who were fleeing the conflict between workers, peasants and fascist general Franco’s forces. Tickets to the game were sold to raise funds to support the children.
We tell the story of the Spanish civil war in this podcast: https://workingclasshistory.com/2018/07/29/spanish-civil-war-podcast/ https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1274795746038906/?type=3
