Solar Punk Action Week day 7
This morning, we measured out where the plots in our veggie garden will go. The ground was mostly soft enough to put in stakes, although several times we had to play “am I running into ice, or rock?”
[Image description: a barren garden. An attempt has been made to kill off the grass that used to dominate the area, @systlin style. The whole patch is covered in layers of cardboard, brown paper, and free mulch that I put down last fall. The wind blew a lot of it around despite my efforts to weigh things down with rocks and branches, so it’s kind of a sad mess. The boundary of the garden is marked with nylon surveyor’s string, and the spot where my sweet potato plot will begin is marked with a stake. The stake is secretly a repurposed Halloween decoration. I bought a bunch at the Dollar Store last year, $1 for a set of four. It is plastic designed to look like a spooky cast-iron fence for a haunted mansion. This one has a big, ornate spider. A bit more fun than the sticks or miscellaneous tent stakes that are marking other sections of the garden.]
